CarToys - A better way to go
A plethora of ways to find the item you are searching for from the main page. Once you have found products you are interested in you can manipulate them to some extent. Details on individual items are good, shopping is secure and the customer service options are adequate. The site has some excellent additional features.
There are lots of items to choose from and you can search by keyword, category, best sellers, brand and more from the main page. Once you have a list of items they can be re-sorted by price and you can also compare items to one another. Details on individual items are very good and include a CarToys user rating. There are also excellent extra sections like CarToys University, the Install Showcase and the Clearance Centre.
It would be nice to be able to sort a list of items by other characteristics than price but this is a small criticism of an otherwise excellent site.
Car Electronics products at MSN Shopping
This site is as close to perfect as I can imagine. There are thousands of items that can be efficiently searched, found item lists can be manipulated easily and details on individual items are good. Although you don't actually buy from MSN (so it is difficult to grade the site on things like secure shopping, toll free help etc) the actual identifying and researching of items that happens before you purchase is first rate.
The number of items available on this site is staggering - for example a search of CD players found 556. You can start your search from the main page by clicking on a category, brand, price range or items that offer free shipping or are on sale. Once you've created a list of items you can re-sort the list by most popular, highest user rating, price and name - you can also view the list in a variety of different formats (grid, list, text). Clicking on the details link will show you basic information on the items and from within this detail screen you can compare items within the category. Clicking on the item's name will take you off to another site to actually purchase the item.
My only criticisms would be that you don't actually buy the items from this site so that there may be aspects of the purchasing process or the help process during purchasing that are less than optimal and also that there are no 'how to', 'tech' areas or forums on the site to assist the buyer with selecting the right item for them.
This visually busy site has a lot of great aspects. You can look for a product by a variety of methods. Once you have a list of items it can be manipulated in a variety of ways. Shopping is secure and there is good customer service but there are no extra features on the site for the shopper looking for technical help.
You can search on this site using the search box at the top of the page or by drilling down in to the categories. Once you have a list of items you can re-sort the list by price, customer rating or top sellers. Details on individual items are excellent and items can be compared to one another. There is toll free help available.
It would be good to see some resource material ('how to' section, forums) for the shopper on this site.
